The Supreme Court
occupies a hallowed, special place in our government
with lifetime
appointments and vetting by the president and by Congress,
the Court is
supposed to help us rise above politics and ensure that we uphold the values of
the Constitution and the rule of law.
But now we face a
crisis.
Trump has nominated
Brett Kavanaugh
an unabashed
partisan
who believes
the president
is immune from
criminal prosecution,
to fill the seat
vacated
by Anthony Kennedy.
Congress controlled
by the far-right,
a White House
led by a demagogue
who spreads fear and hate,
and
now a Supreme Court lurching even further away from safeguarding the
beliefs we hold dear:
equity,
fairness,
justice.
Our three branches
are meant to balance each other in service to the American people,
not function as a
rubber stamp for Donald Trump's worst impulses.
It won't be easy,
but taking back Congress is the only way to revive our democracy's crucial
checks and balances.
